  1. The thing that I enjoyed most about the book was that there was alot of scary moments like when the soldiers came to the Johansens house, also when the soldiers came to Uncle Henriks house, and when the soldiers came on to the boat looking to see if Uncle Henrik was taking any jews to Sweden. I liked this because these parts were those high moments when you don’t know what is going to happen and you are on the edge of your seat. I can’t think of anything I didn’t like about the book. I think that the way the story ended was exciting. I think it was exciting because the war ended and there was no soldiers breaking into your house or patrolling the streets, The Rosens could come back, and Kirsti can have cupcakes with lots of pink frosting. Finally, I wish that Peter was there to celebrate the freedom of Denmark, but he wasn't there because he got shot.

    1. Mackenzie, I love the first part of your blog because I didn’t think about how I liked the scary parts too, I was just thinking about the nice, sweet parts, not the cool, scary ones. Great job Mac!

  2. What I enjoyed most about the book was that even though the roads were a bit bumpy along the way they just went through it and didn’t let anything get in there way. They were so determined just to get their family through things and help Ellen get to Sweden putting her survival first on the list for what needs to come with them.

I would say that there wasn’t really anything that I disliked about the book. Everything went right for them in the end, Denmark became a free country, and Ellen made it to Sweden. All the parts in the book was some of my favorite parts.

I thought the way the story ended was kind of disappointing. We never got to find out about what happened to Ellen or if she’s okay, and if Annemarie will ever get to see Ellen or grow up to be something great. It was all just a little cliffhanger and I honestly didn’t really like the ending because it didn’t explain anything about what happened next. But other then that I loved the book.

The thing I wish would’ve happened that didn’t is that Ellen would surprise Annemarie with a visit just so they could see each other again. Annemarie is so grateful that she has Ellen as a friend and I think that Ellen does too, and it would be just nice for them to say hi just one more time.
Number the Stars is a great book. It is everything about how you should treat your friends. That’s why I love it so much.

  3. What I enjoyed most about this book is how realistic the situation was in the story. If the story is more realistic you can relate to the story, and it adds more emotion as if it was really happening, like if you were Jewish like Ellen. There was really nothing I didn't like about the story because it had so much detail, emotion, and interesting thoughts in this book, and that is all the things I am looking for in a story. An example is, the story about Lise, at first they didn’t tell much but during the end it was so sad and detailed and and it could paint a mind picture. I thought that the ending was so sweet and a perfect end to this amazing book, because Annemarie is still thinking about Ellen even though she is not there and in Sweden, and Annemarie is telling herself, by wearing the necklace that she is as close to being a Jew without really being one. I really wish that they would have made the story a sentence longer, leaving you with a cliffhanger and making another book, but otherwise this story was probably my favorite I had read all year!

  4. What I enjoyed most in Number the Stars is how the story describes everything to make it more clear for the reader. One example of this is how in chapter 17 All This Long Time it says “ Church Bells rang all over Copenhagen, early that May evening.” Not only does it explain what kind of bells rang but it explained when and where as well. I didn’t like how you get to know all these wonderful courages people and then half of them leave or die. I liked how the book ended because it explained Lise’s and Peters real stories. About them being part of the Resistance. Although I wish Peter would have told them earlier in the story in person so they could better understand that he was part of the Resistance too. I wish that Ellen had come back once the war ended because Annemarie would be really happy that the war ended and that her best friend would be back.
